Abstract

As the world?s population keeps growing and their needs increase in variety; the human being, willing to have ?more? and ?better?, have already started to seek new energy resources and have started to tend to use fossil fuels which produce more energy. However, in a short period of time, the harmful effects of these fuels influenced not only the nature but also the health of the living creatures therefore these harmful effects have surpassed their benefits. As the fossil fuels have been consumed for the sake of ?the evolution of the human beings?, natural environment has also been altered by their waste. In this study, by explaining the motive of the tendency to the renewable energy resources according from the aspects of security of supply, socio-economy and environment, the relation between the energy and the sustainable development are introduced and the importance of the renewable energies through the processes of Climate Change Framework Convention and the Kyoto Protocol are discussed substantially. Then, the description of each renewable energy resource is given and all these resources are explained considering both their positive and negative aspects. After analysing the effects of the climate change in our country and the situation of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol in Turkey, the renewable energy policy is argued. Afterwards, both the potential of each renewable energy source and its evaluation level are explained and eventually the legislation on the renewable energy sources is emphasized.
