| dc.description.abstract | SUMMARY In this research, one of the first researches concerning historical urban geography, it has been tried to represent the locational expansion of the Manisa city across time and space according to development stages. In surrounding of contemporary Manisa, during the history, in order, the cities of Tantalis, Spiylos, Magnesia and Manisa had been established. From these cities, Tandalis and Spiylos had not been established in the location of today's Manisa city. They had been established north eastern parts of Manisa Mountain, in Yarikkaya which is about 7 km east of Manisa. Later on, probably, contemporary Manisa city was established as Magnesia after the collapse of Spiylos in an earthquake. The City of Manisa used to be located in the northern side and upper section of Sandikkale Hill as an internal and external castle during Roman and Byzantine time. Under the control of Turkish sovereignty, the city expanded to the outside of the castles, first, as a stripe in east-west direction, then towards to the -north- the Gediz Plain. In 21st century, the development direction of the city is northwest. The city has been an important settlement throughout the history, but the city gained its vital importance during Ottoman time in 15th and 16th centuries. During these centuries, one of the significant reasons for being an important settlement was that the city was "the city of Şehzadeler (Sultan's sons, prince)". After Izmir city gained the economic, commercial and cultural dominance of the region, Manisa city lost its importance and it remained in the shadow of this big city. However, nowadays, Manisa has started to redevelop due to strategic, economic and political reasons such as relocation of the industry outside of big cities and increase of transportation accessibility. 577 | tr_TR |
| dc.description.ozet | ÖZET Tarihsel Şehir coğrafyası bakımından ülkemizdeki ilk çalışmalardan bir olan bu çalışmada, Manisa Şehri'nin zaman ve mekân içerisinde gelişme evrelerine uygun olarak saha üzerindeki yayılışı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bugünkü Manisa çevresinde tarih boyunca sırasıyla Tantalis, Spiylos, Magnesia ve Manisa şehirleri kurulmuştur. Bunlardan Tantalis ve Spiylos şehirleri bugünkü Manisa şehrinin bulunduğu alanda değil. O'nun hemen 7 km kadar doğusunda Yarıkkaya mevkiinde Manisa dağının kuzeyindeki engebeli alanlarda kurulmuştur. Daha sonra muhtemelen bu şehirlerden sonuncusu olan Spiylos şehrinin depremde yıkılmasıyla bugünkü Manisa şehri Magnesia adıyla kurulmuştur. Roma ve Bizans döneminde Sandıkkale tepesinin kuzey yamaçlarında ve üst kesimlerinde İç ve Dış kale şeklinde bulunan şehir, Türklerin egemenliğine geçtikten sonra bu kalelerin dışına çıkmış, önce ince bir şerit halinde doğu-batı yönünde gelişme gösterdikten sonra kuzeye yani Gediz ovasına doğru mekânsal gelişim göstermiştir. Şehrin 21. yüzyıldaki mekânsal gelişim yönü ise kuzeybatıdır. Tarihin hemen her dönemde önemli bir yerleşme olmakla beraber asıl önemini Osmanlı Devleti döneminde XV. ve XVI. Yüzyıllarda göstermiştir. Bu dönemlerde önemli bir şehir olmasının en önemli nedenlerinden biri de Manisa'nın bir "Şehzadeler şehri" olmasıdır. İzmir şehri yörenin ekonomik, ticari ve kültürel üstünlüğünü almasından itibaren Manisa eski önemini kaybetmiş ve bu büyük kentin gölgesinde kalmıştır. Ancak son zamanlardaki sanayinin büyük kentlerin dışına çıkartılması, ulaşımın daha kolaylaşması gibi bazı stratejik, ekonomik ve siyasi nedenlerle tekrar gelişmeye başlamıştır. 576 | tr_TR |
