Abstract
Bertolt Brecht's epic theatre which is the most important theatre theory in the twentieth century, affected not only art of theatre but also aestetics of cinema. According to Brecht, modern theatre is epic theatre. For this reason Brecht rejected Aristotelian dramatic theory based on katharsis, identification, mimesis, illusion and cause-effect relation and he created an alternative theatre theory based on alienation or distanting effects in order to prevent the audience from loosing itself passively and completely in the character created by the actor, and lead the audience to be a consciously critical observer. The aim of this study is to show the reflections of Brechtian aestetics theory based on naivete, fabel, episodic structure, narrative style, gestus, alienation, Brechtian acting and historification in Turkish cinema and analyze Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur? on Brecthian aestetics adapted to the cinema by Atıf Yılmaz.
