Abstract
The opinions of Abū l-Qāsim al-Ka'bī al-Balkhī (d. 319/931) on knowledge, who is one of the authority names of the Baghdad School of Mu'tazila, constitutes the main axis of this study. The study consists of ″Introduction″ and four chapters. In the introduction section, Abū l-Qāsim al-Balkhī's life, his scientific personality, his works, and his place in Mu'tazila are discussed. The information in this section is important in terms of determining his position and his ideas in the historical process. In the first part of our study, the possibility, nature, and the conceptual framework of knowledge are evaluated both within the framework of al-Balkhī's theory of knowledge and related approaches. Additionally the existent-knowledge relationship is discussed. Balkhī's approach of existence at that time attracted attention with its detailed explanations and different paradigms. For this reason, it shapes its epistemological approach. In the second part of our study, sources and types of information are discussed. This section is important in terms of putting forward the epistemological approach of Bakhī. In the last part of the research, the value of knowledge in theological and moral fields are discussed. Based on the fact that having knowledge is a necessity for people, Balkhī has revealed the value of this knowledge as knowing God theologically and acting on a morally knowledgeable basis. The cognitive basis of Balkhī's moral understanding has parameters that reveal that this is the case with reason, which does not attribute the determination of good and evil to the divine command.
