Item Sağlık iletişimi paradigmaları ve Türkiye: Medyada sağlık haberlerinin analizi(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2010) Sezgin, Deniz; Kazancı, Metin; Halkla İlişkiler ve TanıtımThe health discourse in the media, which changed direction from focusing on ?sickness? towards emphasizing being ?healthy?, provides the medical social control through control of bodies. Behind the visible face of this discourse which is covered by an ideological veil, lies the utilization of the control of bodies in the direction of commercial concerns. Although the process seems to focus on public and individual health, it is clear that the interest of the individuals is not the first objective. Through media, healthy life promises are presented in a format that would stimulate the survival instinct of the individual; and this fact causes the individuals not to see the commercial concerns lying behind these presentations.Within the framework of this work, which focuses on the analysis and explanation of the social and cultural dynamics of the health discourse in the media, a content analysis is applied to health and health related news/articles printed in Hürriyet newspaper and its annexes between the dates of 01 January ? 31 December 2008. 3008 collected news/articles are classified in 24 different categories and analyzed under the titles of ?describing elements?, ?argued basic concepts?, ?life style suggestions? and ?other health information?. It has been determined that the life style suggestions are presented to individuals through medicalization of the daily life and individualization of health problematic; and health is presented) as an individual problem rather than a social and political problem. It has also been made clear that the health communication perspective, which provides the second objective for this work as questioning whether or not it can provide an alternative to present health discourse, is far from dismissing the dominant discourse. Health communication perspective can offer correct, understandable and useful answers to society against the manipulating and commercially shaped health and healthy life style suggestions. But the really important point is that health communication shouldn?t be limited to messages targeted only at individuals, and it shouldn?t ignore the important role it can play in making, developing and improving health policies.
