    The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the role of Afghanistan in international affairs from the Soviet occupation of 1979 till the intervention of U.S.A.in 2001.The first section of this thesis is on the geostrategic, economic, and ethnic situation of Afghanistan.The second section will deal with the establishment of Afghanistan government till it got membership of the United Nations as well as its relations with other member countries.In the third section, the invasion of the USSR and its occupation will be discussed.The fourth section will analyze the withdrawal of USSR from Afghanistan and the ensuing civil war which gave rise to the Taliban.
