Item Ana haber bültenlerinde şarkiyatçı söylem(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2006) Aral, Ali Anıl; Kejanlıoğlu, Beybin; Radyo, Televizyon ve SinemaOrientalism supposes that there are two distinct regions as Occident andOrient and these regions are separate both ontologically and epistemologically.Acceptance of this ontological and epistemological distinction in those countrieswhere modernity project defined as westernization is in application brings a kind ofviolence to the westernized country according to this distinction. Hence, in Turkey,which prefers modernization through westernization and sees the European Union asthe ultimate goal in this project, it is possible to run into acceptance of theepistemological and ontological distinction created by Orientalist discourse andtraces of a vocabulary of words and imagination produced by Orientalist discourseused to apply the violence this distinction brings along.In order to follow the traces Orientalist discourse, discourse analysis has beenapplied to the main news bulletins of these TV channels-NTV, Kanal 7,Samanyolu, TGRT Haber and ATV-which broadcast on national scale and whosebroadcasting policies are different from each other with a time frame of 1st ofOctober to 5th of October-3rd of October, the date when Turkey starts thenegotiations with EU taken as the axis. As the result of discourse analysis, it isrevealed that the ontological and epistemological distinction created by Orientalistdiscourse is accepted and the violence this distinction brings along to Occidentalizeis facilitated by usage of a vocabulary of words and imagination produced byOrientalist discourse in main news bulletins of these television channels.139
