This study aimed to reveal opinions of academic staff andadministrators on implementation of talent management in five different talentmanagement dimensions which are attracting, deploying, developing,retaining talent and succession planning at some Turkish universities inİstanbul (one public, two private).In this research, descriptive survey model which includes bothquantitative and qualitative methods was used. The sample of the studycomprised of 275 academic staff and 11 administrators who were working in11 faculties at three universities (Marmara, Maltepe, Koç). The qualitativedata were gathered through ?Talent Management Scale? which wasdeveloped by the researcher and administered to the sample and thequalitative data were gathered by holding interviews with 11 universityadministrators. The quantitative data were analyzed through the SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program. The qualitative data wereanalyzed by content analysis. To analyze the qualitative data mean, standartdeviation, coefficient of variation, frequency, t-test, one way ANOVA wereused.Research results reveal that according to the academic staff, attractingtalent dimension of talent management has been implemented in ?somedegree? in universities. Deploying talent, developing talent, retaining talentand succession planning dimensions have been implemented ?rarely? inUniversities. Opinions of the academic staff at Koç University differ fromopinions of the academic staff at Marmara University and Maltepe University ? about implementation level of talent management in universities. Accordingto the academic staff at Koç University, developing talent and successionplanning dimensions of talent management have been implemented in ?somedegree?; attracting talent, deploying talent, retaining talent dimensions oftalent management have been implemented ?highly? in their University.Research shows that there was a significant difference between theopinions of academic staff at public and private universities in implementationlevel of talent management at universities. The academic staff at privateuniversity was more positive than the academic staff at public universityabout implementation level of talent management in all subdimensions.According to academic title, there was a significant difference betweenassociated professors? and assistant professors? opinions on implementationlevel of deploying talent dimension. Assistant professors? opinions weremore positive than associated professors? opinions. According to the types offaculty, there was a significant difference between Faculty of Engineering,Faculty of Economic & Administrative Sciences and Faculty of Arts &Sciences in implementation level of attracting talent, deploying talent,retaining talent dimensions. The academic staff in the Faculty of Engineeringwas more positive than the academic staff in the Faculty of Economic &Administrative Sciences about the implementation level of these threedimensions of talent management in universities. Besides in deploying talentdimension, the academic staff in the Faculty of Engineering was morepositive than the staff in the Faculty of Arts & Sciences about implementationlevel of talent management in universities.According to the research findings, opinions of the universityadministrators differ on the level of talent management implementations inthe universities. Majority of the administrators (Marmara & MaltepeUniversities) reveal that to be able to implement talent management systemsin universities is difficult because of some limitations. But still they try toimplement some activities to manage talent although these efforts are notsystematic. Other part of the administrators (Koç University) are positive andreveal that talent management in all dimensions has been implementedhighly/strongly in their university.
