Ankara'da kentsel tarım kapsamında Atatürk Orman Çiftliği'nin günümüz koşullarında yeniden değerlendirilmesi üzerinde bir araştırma
Abstract
In recent years, natural resources have been rapidly depleted and the issue sustainability has gained importance. For this reason, food security has been one of the most important problems for the future. Due to the rapid depletion of natural resources, which puts future generation's food security under thread, the concept of 'urban agriculture' comes in term. The concepts, urban agriculture, sustainable agriculture, permaculture and ecologic agriculture are considered vital concepts as in the case of the many others countries of the world. The importance of these concepts has been understood well, as the ongoing problems of the days we live in; rapid depletion of agricultural lands stem from the rapid urbanization, the loss of natural resources, soil erosion, the decrease of soil fertility and ongoing famine disaster still present in many countries. In our country, Turkey, "Atatürk Forest Farm" (AFF) (Atatürk Orman Çiftliği) was established in 1925. At the beginning, it was an urban farm, to provide food, labor, education, and recreation for inhabitants of the city of Ankara. However, in the course of the time, AFF has lost considerable amount of areas and the farm has been far away from it's initial objective. However, the attempts and efforts to extend urban farm in the 21st century cities can be found their roots presented from the beginning till at present in AFF. In this context, the protection and regeneration according to actual life conditionsof AFF, which has undoubtly substantial contributions to city and city people, is necessary and also should be evaluated its spread in the other cities. In relation to the concept of "urban agriculture1', restructing AFF is aimed so that it can continue its functions such as providing food, labour, education and opportunity for recreation. In this study, the principles and concepts of urban agriculture, sustainable agriculture were evaluated and appraised in the case of AFF. The search was realized in order to evaluate the historical importance of AFF and it's functioning in the city's open areas and to determine future policies and management planning for restructuring for future. In the management planning, realized in this context, the ideal aim was determined as 'the rational regeneration of AFF in accord with the Atatürk? s will'. As parallel to the ideal aim, 4 sub-targets towards implementation were proposed: the development of urban agricultural activities, the development of recreational activities, the development of pedagogic activities and finally, the conservation and development of historical and cultural assets.
