Özet
This study aims to examine the Romantic influences on Progressive Pedagogy. As assumed to be influential from the last quarter of the 18.th century to the midst of the 19.th century, Romanticism, especially in Europe, effected the literature, arts and the perception of the world in general. The term 'Romanticism' is used in two different meanings in this study, one being The Romantic Period and the other being Romantic Characteristics in general. Throughout this study, the direct or indirect influences on Progressive Pedagogy of characteristics which Romanticism strongly stresses such as freedom, imagination, creativity, nature, feelings, transcendental and spiritual sides of humankind, individualism and longing for the unknown and the past are attempted to be traced. The relation between the Main characteristics of Progressive Pedagogy such as child-centrism, learning by experience, interpretation and restructure of the knowledge instead of memorization, creativity, freedom, democracy, experience, imagination, inspiration, expedition, art and child interests & needs and the main characteristics of Romanticism are emphasized in this study. In this qualitative study, literature review knowledge obtaining method is applied.
