The person, having caused this separation, was Wang Mang, who proclaimed his empire between AD 9–23. After proclaiming his emperorship Wang Mang changed the name of his dynasty as "Xin (新) Dynasty". Wang Mang also made many economic and political reforms. These reforms were land, slavery, administrative, currency, changes of name, and measurement units reforms all of which were failed. The failure the reforms caused the riots. As a result of the rebellions, Wang Mang's reign ended. The period after Wang Mang's Xin Dynasty is called the Eastern Han Dynasty.
