The aim of this study is to examine the efficacy of the Parenting Support Program, developed by researcher, on the behavior problems, adaptive and social behaviors of 3-6 years old children and parenting styles and skills, parental stress and parenting competence. It is a mixed method research and it used "embedded design". The quantitative part of this study is an experimental model based on pre-test, post-test with experimental, and control groups. Eighteen children between the ages of 36 and 72 months who has behavioral problems were randomly assigned to intervention and waitlist control group. The study was conducted in Ankara and the data gathered from mothers, fathers and teachers. Intervention and control groups were assessed in terms of parenting styles (Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire), parenting stress (Parenting Difficulty Scales), parental competence (Parenting Competence Scale), child behavior problems (Conners' Parent Rating Scale, Conners' Teacher Rating Scale), adaptive behaviors (The Adaptive Social Behavior Inventory) and observed behaviors of parent and children (FAST Coding System). A semi-structured questionnaire also used to gather qualitative information about parent and children. Moreover, Parenting Support Program Evaluation Form was used to investigate the satisfaction of parents from parent training program and implementation process. Mann Whitney U-test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank test were used to analyse quantitative data. Reliable Change Index was also used to analyze the clinical significance of the differentiation between pre and post-test scores. The qualitative data of this study and parental satisfaction were analyzed by descriptive qualitative analysis. Results indicated that Parenting Support Program is effective on increasing positive parenting styles, parenting competence, adaptive behaviors of children and decreasing child behavior problems and negative parenting behaviors. On parent report measures, intervention parents reported that they have more positive parenting styles and parenting competence after treatment than waitlist control group. Intervention parents and teachers also reported fewer child disruptive behaviors and more child adaptive behaviors after Family Support Program than waitlist control group. However fathers revealed significant results in a fewer areas than mothers. Observational results showed that intervention parents interact more positively with their children and their children behave more positively after treatment than waitlist control group. Moreover, qualitative results supported the quantitative results and showed that Parenting Support Program is effective, useful for families and it meets the expectations of parents. Consequently, this study revealed that Parenting Support Program can be used as a intervention tool to decrease/prevent child behavior problems and increase positive parenting styles, skills and parenting competence.
