Devrimci Yol'un retoriği: Devrimci Yol dergisinde bir kurtuluş ve gelecek tasavvuru olarak devrim
Özet
This thesis introduces rhetoric as a theoretical perspective and methodological tool for analyzing social movements. Accordingly, it analyzes the rhetoric of Devrimci Yol (Revolutionary Way) which was one of the most popular radical movements of 1970s in Turkey. The analysis was conducted on the basis of the fantasy theme, narrative and metaphor analysis, by highlighting the movement?s capacity\potentiality of meaning making for their members, allies and foes. Firstly, it is focused on the rhetorical vision of revolution in the Journal of Devrimci Yol and secondly the way revolutionaries communicate with their main target group (people). The thesis shows that in the Journal of Devrimci Yol, revolution is mainly envisioned as emancipation from the chains of existing system but at the same time as a vision of new future and way of life. The results also indicate that the way the revolutionaries communicate involves tension between persuasion and invitation\identification.The dissertation is organized in two main chapters: The first one focuses on rhetoric and discusses Devrimci Yol as a rhetorical movement, while the second chapter is devoted to the analysis. Following the main fantasy themes of rhetorical vision, the second chapter is divided in three sections. The first section focuses on the criticism of the existing system; the second section deals with the relationship between revolutionaries and people on the basis of the anti-fascist war and the last section considers revolutionary martyrdom as a moment of revolutionary ethos.
