Özet
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships university students' stigma levels toward psychological help seeking with self-efficacy, family sense of coherence, and social support. Besides that, the other aims were to examine whether there were significant differences in the level of university students' stigma toward psychological help-seeking in terms of gender, faculty types and past help-seeking experience. This study was carried out with 520 students who are studying at Ankara University, Başkent University and Hacettepe University in academic year 2016-2017. The data used in this study was adopted from Personal Information Form, Self Stigma of Seeking Help Scale, Stigma Scale for Receiving Psychological Help, General Self-Efficacy Scale, Short Form of The Family Sense of Coherence Scale and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Independent samples t-test was used to investigate whether there were significant differences on self stigma and public stigma in terms of gender and past help-seeking experience. Also, one-way analysis of variance was used to determine whether there was a significant difference for faculty types. Predictive power of self-efficacy, family sense of coherence, and perceived social support on self stigma and public stigma were analyzed by hierarchical regression analysis. The result of the study revealed that participants' scores of the self stigma toward seeking psychological help showed significant difference according to gender, faculty, past help-seeking experience. However, there were no significant differences on the public stigma toward psychological help seeking in terms of gender and past help-seeking experience. It was found that participants' public stigma level toward seeking psychological help differed in terms of faculty types. As a result of hierarchical regression analysis where the self stigma and public stigma toward psychological help seeking was taken as predicted variable, it was found that self-efficacy and family sense of coherence were the significant predictors of self stigma and public stigma toward psychological help seeking. On the other hand, it was found that sub-dimensions of social support were no significant predictors of self stigma and public stigma toward psychological help seeking.
