Özet
Hatalmis, Ali, Slavery and Concubinage in Early Islamic Period (from the time of Prophet Mohammad to the end of the time of the Umayyads), Doctoral Dissertation, Counsellor: Prof. Dr. Irfan Aycan, 400 p.Slaves were those that people in society had demoted as property, and they were treated differently from other individuals in terms of the laws, economy and social life. Slavery, which dates back long ago, was widespread all around the world at the time of Islam's birth. Islam made significant reforms in it, rather than abolishing at first. Islam restricted the conditions to decrease slavery and considered the slaves as ones to be saved. It also set forth humanitarian and legal regulations pertaining to guidelines which promoted better treatment by their owners, as well providing for a sooner release date from the bonds of slavery. In Islamic society, slaves' conversion to Islam and their being freed were considered to be nearly equivalent. The Prophet made great efforts toward freeding rather than enslaving them, which should be inferred to include be preparatory to the eventual abolishion of slavery. Khulafa Rashedeen followed the path of the Prophet in this regard. The Umayyads, on the other hand, aggravated slavery rather than abolising it.This work consists of an introduction, which includes three chapters and an appendix. Our research covers the era between 610-750 AD. In the introductory chapter, the terms, the history of slavery, and records concerning slavery are discussed.
