Aim of this thesis is to assess changes in Gypsy/Roman community?s socio-economic conditions and consider their expectations. This analysis is performed in the framework of changes and transformation of livelihood strategies of Gypsy/Roman community. It is observed that globalization process leads a change and a transformation in Gypsy/Roman community?s livelihood strategies. Disappearance of traditional jobs and occupational activities of Gypsy/Roman community increase poverty and deprivations of these people.Deepening poverty and deprivation of Gypsy/Roman community live in Turkey and their future socio-economic conditions have been examined predicating on their livelihood strategies. In this regard, entertainment/music, shoe making, agriculture, recycling sectors and peddling and street vending are chosen. Change and transformation experienced in these jobs and occupations during the globalization process is focused.Their personal education degree, their consideration about education phenomenon and relationship of their education levels and their employment status is also studied in the thesis.İzmir is one of the cities that Gypsy/Roman community densely lives in Turkey. This city is chosen as sample. Study is performed in eight different densely Gypsy/Roman populated neighborhood. 77 individuals are approached by in-depth interview method. Evidence about Gypsy/Roman community?s socio-economic conditions, dynamics of job and occupational of these people have been found. The difficulties that Gypsy/Roman community face while accessing to education and employment opportunities, their poverty and deprivation deepen more during the globalization process. Living conditions are hardened for both of contemporary and future generations of Gypsy/Roman community.
