Modified Shutte Emotional Intelligence Scale, Coping Styles Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Trait Anxiety Inventory were used in a sample of 300 university students in Turkey. The results were consistent with previous findings. Results of the stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that EI and effective coping styles negatively predicted anxiety and depression symptoms significantly whereas ineffective coping styles positively predicted anxiety and depression symptoms significantly. Theoretical and applied implications of the results are discussed
