Ergenlikte romantik ilişkiler
Özet
Romantic relationships as a part of the identity development has been acknowledged as one of the important sources in the process of adolescent?s finding her/his personality. Late adolescent period, has been acknowledged as an important progression period in the analysis of both adolescent identity crisis and closeness (Sullivan, 1953; Erikson,1968; Buhrmester and Furman,1987). This study, addressing adolescent romantic relationships in the context of parents and friend relationships in Turkey aims to examine the effect of features of interaction percieved from relationship network. Data was obtained from 1067 individuals of ages 18-22 who are university students. ?Self-description Form?, ?Network of Relationships Inventory (NRI)?, and ?Relationship Closeness Inventory (RCI)? were utilized to obtain data from the participants. Inventories were adapted by the researcher. SPSS 19.00 was used in data analysis; frequency and percentage distribution, t-test, one-way variance analysis, multiple linear regression analysis, and logistic regression analysis were used. No significant difference between specific features of relationship with demographic variables except perceived SES was found. It was found that history of relationship with parents does not predict frequency, diversity, and strength of the relationship in adolescent relationships; having positive relationship history with opposite-sex friends, which is one of the relationship indicators of adolescents with their friends, was found to predict the frequency and diversity of activities. Percentage of romantic involvement was 86%, average relationship duration 21.67 months. Most frequently performed joint activities were also determined with the study. Age preference of girls in choosing romantic partner is different from boys. Positive relationship history with opposite-sex friends predicts adolescents? romantic involvement and thier description of romantic relationship as being closest relationship. Findings were discussed in the context of related literature, emprical studies, and in cultural context.KEY WORDS: Romantic relationships, adolescence, NRI, RCI
