The aim of this study is to examine the opinions of physical educationteachers from both state and private elementary and high schools on the theirown in-service training programmes. 187 of 1100 pyhsical education teachersin Ankara were selected for this study. The developed questionnaire includingtwo parts are applied to the participants. Descriptive statistics was used for thedata analysis. Analysis were performed by SPSS software.Findings, obtaines during research, are as follows:There seems to be an insufficient level of in-service training activities formeeting the needs and expectations of physical education teachers. There isan insufficiency in terms of providing the willing participation to the in-servicetraining programmes. There is a fundamental and principal insufficiency aboutthe timing, conditions of the place and educational materials of the in-servicetraining programmes. There are some problems about the trainers? proficiencyof teaching the subjects and adult education. There is a insufficiency related toevaluation of programme and success in in-service trainings in which physicaleducation teachers participate. It was found out that the teachers would like totake in-service training programmes they need by ?course? and via ?internet?in the periods of September and June when there is no education at schools. Itwas found out that the teachers would like to take courses related to ?methodsfor computer using and internet? for their class in in-service trainingprogrammes. Also the teachers meet with some problems related to thephysical condition of in-service training place.At the result, the physical education teachers meet with lots of problemsand insufficiencies related to in-service training programmes employed them.Because the needs and expectations of teachers aren?t benefited, the contentof programmes aren?t evaluated at the end of the in-service training activitiesbefore planing in-service training programmes, in-service training programmesremains insufficient to reach its goal.
