Özet
SUMMARY Different kinds of forms of communications, such as bussines letters, applications, contracts, and pamplets are used in institutions and companies. However, letters, forms, reports, and regulations are considered more effective and useful means of communications. These types of documents are important because they are not only primary sources of institutional activities, but they also constitute major parts of documents produced by them. Institutions produce many kinds of documents as a result of their set goals and activities. Most important among them are official correspondences. Effective concept and method of written communication can only be achieved through its control in institutions. It is this control that provides necessary mean for balanced and timely production, augmentation, use, and dissemination of documents. For the stated reasons, there is a need for a correspondence management program in institutions. Unfortunately, there is no correspondence management program for institutions and archives in Turkey. Consequently, there is a need for a single standardized system for classifying official correspondence. Moreover, this system must be established by an institution responsible for the orderly handling of correspondence, and available standards must be revised.
