Developments in The Former Soviet Region and Security Concerns ofThe Russian Federation and Its Relationship with IranABSTRACTThis thesis analyzes the relations of Russian Federation with Iran on thebases of national security policy after the end of the Cold War period. With thecollapse of the USSR and promulgation of the New World Order process, theRussian Federation has become sensitive on Russian national security policy andhighly takes consideration of Caucasia / Central Asia. The basic concern of thethesis is to determine the place of Iran in the region.The thesis begins with determining the arguments and discussions byending of USSR. In this case we are pointing on sharing of energy supplies, statueof the Caspian Sea and the ethnic conflicts. The emergence of independent statesled both RF to redefine its policy and also provoked Iran?s interests in the region.Russian Federation had assured its policy of the region with thedeclaration of security perception in the years 1993 and 2000, and Iran has animportant place in these policies. This thesis investigates whether Russian andIran?s policies overlap.
