This study is conducted with the purpose of determining demographic characteristics, spare time spending habits, opinions, suggestions and expectations about spare time spending of the people that are attending courses organized by Adult Education Centers to spend their spare time. To collect data two instruments were developed by the researcher. On of them was developed to determine the persons who are attending adult education courses to spend their spare time. The other instrument was developed to determine demographic characteristics, spare time spending habits, and opinions, suggestions and expectations about spare time spending of the 231 Adult Education Course participants that are selected by sampling from the population of people attending Adult Education Courses organized by Adult Education Centers in Ankara, to spend their spare time. At the end of the statistical analysis it is determined that, the course participants who are attending adult education courses to spend their spare time, generally are not the target persons from the adult education perspective. Because course participants are poor of facilities to spend their spare time effectively, for that reason in their spare time, they visually do house works and hand works, watch TV, listen to radio and go to peer and family meetings. The other finding of this study is, course participants do not spend their spare time effectively at adult education centers. In addition to this, it is found that, there is a difference between the courses that the participants are attending and the courses that they are expecting. This means that, although present courses are mostly vocational courses, course participants want to attend social, cultural courses and activities. 167
