THE ATHLETE AND COACH THOUGHTS IN RELATION TO COMPLIANCELEVELS TO PROFESSIONAL ETHIC CODES OF COACHESDolaşır, SemiyhaPhD. Educational SciencesAdvisor : Prof. Dr. İnayet AydınOctobar, 2005, 82+x pagesThe purpose of this research is to determine compliance levels toprofessional ethic codes of coaches thoughts in relation to the athlete andcoach . The tool to collect the data has been developed in two stages. At thefirst stage, ?The Ethic Codes of the Coaches? has been determined which hasbeen developed by the researcher and has been diminished down to 70statements out of 384 statements applied to whole Turkey. These codes havebeen organised as Likert 5 type and applied to athletes and coaches. Thetarget population of the research which is screening model has been thenational athletes and coaches who attended the national camps betweenJanuary and March 2005. The sampling groups of the research were athletes(n=160) and coaches (n=44) who attended the national camps. SPSS programwas used for analyzing the data. Determining the professional codes ofcoaches was calculated with percent (%) while determining compliance levelsof coaches based on coach thoughts was done by using descriptive statistics.In comparison of the compliance of coaches to professional ethic codes whichwas determined by athlete and coach thoughts, independent sample t test wasutilized. According to the some selected variables (gender, age, educationlevel, graduated area, tenure, branch, category and gender of the team) incomparion of the compliance level of the coaches in obeying the professionaletic codes, independent sample t test, one-way ANOVA (when the data washemogenous) and Kruskal Wallis (when the data was heterogenous) wereutilized. The findings were as follows : 67 statements were developedampirically as coaches? professional ethic codes.vCompliance levels of coaches to professional ethic codes showed a significantdifference according to thoughts of athletes and coaches [ t(202 )= 3.51, p<.05].The thoughts of coaches related to compliance levels to professional ethiccodes (X=291.50) was higher than those of the athletes (x=312.45).Compliance levels of the coaches according to the thoughts of the athletesshowed a significant difference according to branch [ F(2,157)=3.66, p<.05],education level [ F(2,157)=3.96, p<.05], graduated area [ t(76)= .865, p<.05],tenure [ KW (2)= 2.10, p<.05] and category [ t(158)= 3.91, p<.05].vi
