Özet
We have investigated Şanlıurfa-Kadiri-Şeyh Sodey Tekkesi as a case study of tariqahs which are types of congregations determined by shaykh- murid relationships. One of the functions of religion is that it can associate itself to a congregation. It can also allow the formation of congragations in various types. When the universal and prominent religions are concerned, "the religious special group" types of the religious congregations emerge, and tariqahs constitute the most common form of these groups in the Islamic world. Our study consists of four chapters. The introductory chapter deals with the methods and techniques of research and explains the assumption made in the thesis. The second chapter determines the scope and limits of theoretical framework and explains the sociological aspects of religion and religious groups. It introduces concepts which are used in the research such as tasavvuf, tariqah, shaykh, murid. It also investigates the relationships between shaykh and his followers and among the followers from a sociological point of view. Granted that no social group can escape the impacts of its cultural environement, the third chapter examines the environment in which Şeyh Sodey Tariqah florished in two sections: in the first section, the religious, cultural and social structure of Şanlıurfa is studied and in the second, Kadiri Order to which Şeyh Sodey Tariqah belongs is investigated The emergence of Kadiri order, the charismatic character of its founder, its structure, itsrkuels and its entrance to Şanlıurfa are also explained. In the fourth chapter, Şeyh Sodey Tariqah is fully examined. First, Şeyh Sodey and his tekke are introduced; the structure of his tariqah and religious life of its followers and interactions between Şeyh Sodey and his followers as well as relationships among the followers are analyzed in the light of information which is gathered through interviews and observations.
