Abstract
This research investigated the attitudes toward violence studentadolescents considering the age and gender variables. The aim of theresearch is to investigate whether the attitude of violence ofadolescents shows a significant difference according to age, sex andthe interaction of effects of age and sex.The research is limited to studyent adolescents from bothgenders, age groups as well as from different socioeconomic levels inAnkara province. The research also has time limitations, which wasperformed during the educational year 2003-2004. Therefore, theresearch reflects the attitude of this time period.A group of totally 400 adolescents aged 14-21 and attending first,second, and third years of high-school as well as first and second yearsof university participated the research in 2003-2004 educational year.The adolescents participating the research were attending differenttypes of schools and had varying income levels, so it was possiblehave a representing sample of having adolescents attending differenttypes of schools. In data collection the `Adolescents? Violence BehaviorScale? was developed by the researcher had been used. This is a fivepoint Likert scale consisting of ten items. In order to determine thebasic structure of the scale we performed exploratory factor analysis,and the obtained data were supported by confirmatory factor analysis.The developed scale had been applied to the research group, and SPSS10.0 was used for data analyses. The data had been analyzed by two-way ANOVA for İndependent Sample, and the conclusions had beendrawn .The analyzes indicated that the attitudes towards violenceshowed a significant difference according to sex, where the maleadolescents have more positive attitudes towards than females. Thisfinding has similarity with the studies and explanations in the literature.A considerable number of studies show that the boys are considered asa major risk factor for violence. Attitudes toward violence according toage was also analyzed between two age groups 14-17 and 18-21, wherewe found out that the attitudes towards violence showed significantdifference according to the age group.
