This thesis is about the life, work, scientific character of Mas'udî (345/956) and especially about his being a historian. The "Introduction" part of our thesis is a short summary of social, cultural, and political structure of the period in which he lived. Our work is consisted of two parts; "Part one" is about the life, works and scientific character of Mas'udî. Mas'udî was born in Baghdat, went on a long journey to collect historical material and he settled in Egypt at the last periods of his life, and he died in Fustat (Cairo) He had written down approximately forty books on various topics. "A part of Ahbaru 'z-Zamari\ "Mumcu 'z-Zahab ", " at-Tanbih wa 'l-lshraf and "Isbatu 'l-Wasiyya" awere the only ones surrived today His being historian is more clear than his other sides In second part of our thesis, information is given about the historian Mas'udî. Mas'udî is one of the first moslem historian. Murucu'z-Zahab is one of the main sources of History of Islam and at-Tanbih wa'1-Ishraf has been accepted as one of the first Arabic geography book. 106
