Özet
It is generally stated that " Language is the mirror of a culture". It' s clear that to ignore this peculiarity while studying a foreign language would be awfully insufficient Learning a foreign language actually means understanding the culture which is the essence of that language. It's generally told that since their social structure is complicated, understanding Japanese culture is difficult for people from foreign cultures. Rather than a complicated social structure, we can say that it is because of difficulties of comparison in some forms. Society' s permutation structure and its complexity is tightly hold by a language structure which is called honorific. The aim of this study is to examine the degrees of usage of honorific which is the base of Japanese social structure and to find the best way of teaching Japanese honorific to native Turkish speakers. Based on this idea, in chapter one after studying the relation between language and culture, the structure of respect and human relations in Japanese society, word selection is mentioned. Similar to other languages, there are several language forms according to regional differences. According to the differences in social position, ranks, formality several differences can be observed. This reflects the mind of Japanese society and it has a very important meaning. In chapter two to confirm this fact, behavioral impressions, which has a deep relation with honorific, regional language, women language, business language and written language are studied. In Chapter three, also based on the questionnaire made in Soka University October-November of 1995 on 225 people, we tried to find the common mistakes and changes in honorific use and the views of the Japanese society on honorific and what kind of honorific must be taught, when teaching it honorific to foreigners. In chapter four, we got some results on how to teach Japanese honorific to a foreigner and how to make them talk correct Japanese honorific.
