Book is an effective medium for the cognitive, emotional and motional development of children. It plays an important role in satisfying psychological requirements, developing skills and shaping character; and helps developing of various behaviors and attitudes in their course of life. Therefore, the books, which you will recommend for children, should bear some features available at children's books, and contribute to the accomplishment of the general objectives in the Turkish National Education. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the religious folk tale books for children, published by various publishers and recommended by the Ministry of National Education, Department of Training and Education, in terms of structural and educational features and show the effects thereof on the shaping of children's character structure, and also show their contribution to the accomplishment of the general objectives in the Turkish National Education. This study is a descriptive study using scanning model. Seven folk tale books for children, reviewed as a sample, has been evaluated in terms of structural and educational features selected by experts of the topic. It is shown that they do not have any positive contribution to the shaping of children's character structure and the accomplishment of the general objectives in the Turkish National Education.
