Özet
The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to make an exploratory study of the religious groups in terms of sociology of religion and to constitute an example for examining religious groups which are increasing in number and activity related to the rapid social changes in Turkey from a sociological point of view. This observation was performed on a small group of Mawlavi Order in Ankara. In the Introduction part, the subject, aim and limits of the thesis, assumptions and its field, the methodolog which is used and how that is determined are explained. In the first chapter, some general information is given about the social groups and then about the " religious groups " which are a part of the former. hi the second chapter, since the subject is a religious order ( tariqat ) some information is given first about sufism, asceticism and piety which are the roots of a religious order ( tariqat ). Following this, explanations are given about what a religious order ( tariqat ) is, its history, the objections to it and the interaction between the religious orders ( tariqats ), the individual and the society. The third chapter includes two sections. In the first section the historical development, characteristics and the interaction of the Mawlavi Order with the society are explained. In the second section some information about the three characters who played an important role in the establishment of the Mawlavi Order is given. So far, the aim is to constituted a theoretical frame which will set up a base for the study. The fourth chapter after given some information about group and leader of group, consists of three sections. In the first, second, and the third sections, the theoretical, practical and sociological explanations of this religious experience are given respectively. The third section has five subtitles as follows: 1- The opinions about the moral dimension of the religion 2- The attitudes and behaviours among the group 3- The view of the group about the ones outside the order 4- The group's understanding of life 5- The opinions about the aim, lifetime, and the perception of the group. Finally, there are evaluation, the bibliography, members information form, interview questions and summary.
