These conditions effect the living quality negatively. That is why architectures and planners should find both aesthetic and functional planning approach in urban areas. Roof gardens, which affect positively urban ecology in many ways, have an important place in this approach. In this study, the ability of roof garden applications in Ankara was investigated. For this purpose, climatic factors which influence planning, the features of roofs (roof slope and load bearing capacity) and the technical characteristics that should be found in the roof garden (drainage, insulation, waterproofing, filter layers and irrigation systems etc.) and planting principles were examined. This study showed that it is possible to plan roof gardens under the ecological conditions of Ankara and also roof gardens will affect urban climate positively. However, climatic factors should certainly be taken into consideration while planning.
