Özet
In this study, a situational determination of Kırşehir- Teacher Training High School the 9th grade students who are learning English as a foreign language related to which linguistic actualizations belonging to the different categories the students use and the study of whether semantic categories focus on the certain prototypes or not has been tried to be done.An evaluation paper which contains the categories of fruit, sport, vegetable, vehicle and bird for the purpose of describing the regularity of the concepts handled on the English coursebooks which the formal operational adolescent use in the context of prototype theory has been prepared and applied to 60 students.When the papers of the students are evaluated, the concepts belonging to the categories have been detected to have had resemblances on a large scale with each other. It has been observed that in some categories, more specific terms belonging to the subordinate levels have been used and exceptionally, in the context of semantics the concepts which has ambiguity have been chosen.As a result of the statistical evaluations, a description based upon the concept fields has been obtained. In general, when the students define the concepts based upon the categories, their tendency to choose the specific prototypes has been revealed. Besides, in the context of choosing the prototypical elements, no significant difference has been observed in between 9/C and 9/D grade students, girls and boys, the students? who lived in a village or in a district the most and the students? who lived in a city the most
