In this work, optical cavity and gain mechanism for oscillator free electron laser (IR FEL) were investigated.At the beginning of this study, free electron laser (FEL) is explained then, mentioned about the FEL?s physics and options. Oscillator FEL, Amplifier FEL and Self Amplified Spontaneus Emission (SASE) FEL are investigated with working principles. After that, some information was given about the structure of oscillator FEL and optical cavity. Finally, small gain mechanism for oscillator FEL was investigated.After this information, optical cavity systems of ELBE, JAERI, iFEL, CLIO and FELIX IR-FEL laboratories were investigated.
