In the development of the discipline of art history in our country, the fact that there has been a lack of focus on the very nature of the discipline itself while the socio-cultural background on which we establish our lifestyles is much stressed, and the fact that although there has been some discussions over the theoretical aspects of the science of the art history from time to time, it has not been analysed yet by all aspects, and it has never been taken as an object of a systemic analysis is the main reason why this subject is chosen for this thesis.The objective of this study is to present how the discipline of art history in our country is historically perceived and to frame today?s theory of art history with a systemic presentation. Theoretical basis of the discipline of history which determines the narration of art was a subject of discussion in the development of the theory of art history. Problematization of history, historicity and historiography is of primary importance to be able to comprehend the links between the discipline of art history and history in terms of methods that are used and to be able to bring the discipline?s unique texture into light. The broader second part of the research is composed of the formation of the discipline of art history and its development along with the methodological choices. Stages in the formation of science of art history as a part of historiography and the alterations it has gone through are the main subjects of discussion in this section. Taking in general historiograpy, specifically the theoretical development of art history as a basis; investigating the reception of the theory of art history in Turkey, that is to say, how ?referring to the examples in practice? the theoretical development process of art history is internalized and interpreted constitute the main body of this research.
