This research aims to find out the questions encountered in the system for evaluating performances of teaching staff of Educational Sciences department and the solutions suggested therefore in the opinions of teaching staff of Educational Sciences Departments of various state universities in Ankara. Sample of this research which employed interviews amongst the methods of qualitative researching, consists of 59 teaching staff of state universities in Ankara. Of these, 50 teaching staff could be contacted. Data of the research has been collected through face-to-face interviews with individuals by employing semi-structured interview technique contained in "Interview Form" which was issued by the researcher and content analysis was used.Findings obtained from this study are as follows: A majority of the participating teaching staff stated that there is a performance evaluation system in their department and emphasized the necessity for such evaluation system.The teaching staff members, in relation to the existing performance evaluation system, strongly emphasized that the targets are inadequate, especially ?teaching dimension and education process must be evaluated" in performance evaluation aspect, current measures are inadequate in assessing the performances, a questionnaire is employed as current performance evaluation method, frequency of performance evaluation is once a semester or a year and the results of such performance evaluation are mostly used for "congress, conference and foreign studies".The teaching staff members, regarding the performance evaluation system, suggested as a target that new arrangements must be made with respect to teaching process and teaching-learning performance, the teaching staff members must be given feedbacks regarding their teaching performance, both teaching dimension and education dimension must be evaluated for performance evaluation and personal skills and talents must be assessed as evaluation measures, and research and publication measures must be arranged, while stressing, as for the persons who shall assess the performances, self evaluation, student evaluation, administrative personnel evaluation and outsider evaluation must be used and a questionnaire must be employed as a method of evaluation, and in relation to frequency of evaluation, it must be administered "once a year" and "once a term", results thereof must be utilized in rewarding financially or spiritually, and must be shared with the person in question and administration and must be publicly proclaimed.
