This study aims to emphasize the role of media literacy in the efforts to create moreconscious and qualified use of media. In this context, the study focuses on thequestion of what it means to approach the media from a critical point of view, theimportance of education in the adoption of critical thought and approaches and therole of critical pedagogy in the attainment of this end, and the notion of medialiteracy as a natural outcome of the need to educate individuals to become critical ofthe media. Within the framework of this study, the notion of media literacy is takenas a social transformation project. The study also includes a discussion on theefficiency of the Media Literacy lessons taught in the second level of primaryeducation, which is premised on the results of a research conducted with MediaLiteracy teachers in Ankara, Turkey.Key words: Traditional Pedagogy, Critical Pedagogy, Media Literacy
