ABSTRACT Masters Thesiî THE EFFECTS OF RED PEPPER MEAL ( Caps x cum annum} ON THE FATTENING PERFORMANCE AND "CARCASS QUALITY IN JAPANESE QUAILS Kayahan YILMAZ Ankara üni vers i ty Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Animal Science Supervisor : Prof.Dr. Yılmaz YÜCELEN 1994, Page; 47 Jury : Prof. Dr..Yılmaz YÜCELEN In this research, the effects of the quail rations containing of red pepper meal at different levels were investigated for fattening performance, slaughter results and skin color. The experiment was conducted in four groups with 4 replicates in which 20 day old Japanese guail chicks. During the experiment, the rations prepared as i son i erogenic (approximately, 26.5 % crude protein) arxi isoenergetic (approximately, 3050 kcal/kg rnetabolizable energy) were fed to the experimental groups. The experimental diets were formulated by the substitution of red pepper meal at levels of 0.2S, 0.50 and 0.75 % respectively. Feed and water were given ad libitum. The experiment was lasted 5 weeks. At the end of the experiment, the average results in the groups were, respectively; the final average live weights 177.55 g (control), 186.59 g, 175.96 g and 186.57 g; live weight gains 189.13 g (control), 177.95 g, 167.54 g.and 178.16 g; total feed consumptions 587.90 g (control), 588.12 g, 383.19 g and 421.82 g; feed conversion ratios 2.297, 2.182. 2.298 and 2.570; the percentages of mortality 5 (control), 3.75, 5 and 7.5. These differences were not found significant between the groups from the point of views of examined criteria. The differences in slaughter results were not attributed to Che ration». The differences were found significant among the control group and the other groups from the point of view of skin color (P < 0.01). Darker skin color was caused by the -substitution of reri pepper meal at the level of 0.25 % in rations.
