Özet
Sixteenth National Education Assembly has been held as the ?Occupational Technical Education Assembly? as a part of the work for increasing the attractivity of occupational technical education and needed human resources in Turkey. Some of the decisions made as results of the assembly have been realized with law no 4720. With changes in this law, therefore graduated students from occupational secondary schools would have the opportunity to continue their education within best matched program in occupational schools at university level without joining the university entrance examination so called direct admission system. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the occupational schools, and direct admission system within the students? point of view that they used direct admission system and graduated from occupational schools as well as their expectation related to direct admission system and their education. In this study, related literature has been carefully reviewed. A questionnaire developed as a data collection tool, and its validity and reliability studied. First part of the tool contains the demographic specifications of the students while second part was containing the questionnaire for direct passing system. The questionnaire has been applied to 428 students (220 female, 208 male) who continue their education used direct admission system at the occupational schools in Izmir district. All students have low socio-economical status. Of the 82.9% have taken university entrance exam, and the 43.7% of total have additional preparation training for the entrance exam. Almost half of the students have stated that they would have not continue their education at occupational school, and almost 60% of total have stated that they would have pass the entrance exam for any license program if there were no direct admission system, and their particular reason for joining to occupational school with direct admission system was the opportunity to vertical access to four-year license program. Therefore, the current system appears to be out of expectations of the students.
