Menderes magnesiası hypokaustlu yapı yerel üretim seramikleri
Özet
In 2000-2002 and 2004, during the excavations in Magnesia, a complex structure which is terminally defined as ?Structure with Hypocaust? because of the hypocaust system it has, was uncovered.Throughout four excavation seasons, uncovered rooms are listed below: Room with fresco, A, C and D rooms, and the room with hypocaust (totally 5 rooms) and a narrow and low corridor with vault construction connecting room A and room C. Many ceramics were found under approximately 1 meter filled layer, during the excavations in A, C and D rooms and the corridor. These approximately 70 boxes ceramics present several forms. Their most important contribution to the work about Magnesia city and ceramics is to provide an opportunity to describe and define local wares. In the structure, along with ceramics which are made for daily usage, a lot of ceramic slugs, potteries with production defects, circles which are used for organizing oven were acquired. Considered together with other production materials like tripods and moulds found in other buildings of the city, the productions of the city were defined and 95% of the materials found were recognized as local production.570 pieces were included into the study, 1667 pieces were used for statistical work, and 83 different forms were defined among these pieces. Most of these materials are forms which were recognized in centers throughout Aegean region. However it is considered that some cup forms which are represented with a lot of examples and not having any parallel examples in other ancient cities are peculiar to Magnesia. In our comparative dating process, it was considered that 91% of local productions belong to 2nd-3rd centuries AD; the other pieces which are dated for 1st century AD, 1st ? 2nd century AD and 1st -3rd centuries AD. represent 9% of whole pieces. Imported ceramics also support this dating. It has been found that the latest examples of ceramics used for filling of the structure belong to 3rd century AD. That means that the building should be filled at 3rd century AD at the latest.
