The Caliph Omar b. Hattab, before converted to Islam, was among one of rare persons knowing how to write and read, and held the responsibility of conducting the diplomacy of Mecca city-state. He was an influential person both during the Jahiliyya period and his period of the Caliphate, thanks to having such attributes as being courageous, athletic, clever, hard-working and initiating person.Hz. In consequence of conquests that took place during his ten year period of the Caliphateship, Sasanites, one of the two super powers at the time, was destroyed while the other power, the Byzantine Empire, lost lots of its territories.
