When we examine in depth literary movements in the history of literature, we see some movements that have had a profound influence on humanity often interacting with social developments. Such literary currents still constitute, after centuries, a subject of debate.The baroque literature is one of them with its particular position in the history of literature. The baroque era witnessed some dramatic events that had an effect on humanity as a whole with intricate historical and social factors during which people were in search of solutions in all areas. In such circumstances, it is no surprise that the artistic movement of that period would be different from the preceding ones.The baroque literature, as a part of the baroque art in general, exhibits some particularities and differences with respect to its predecessors. Extra effort is required to understand it. The baroque literature deserves a special status in the history of art. This literary movement spread to all countries where the baroque art was present and managed to secure a strong base for itself.In that context, a country like Hungary, situated in the middle of Europe and very sensitive to social developments, would certainly have a part in the baroque art and literature. This country gave a large number of works of art to this artistic movement. Hungary came very early under the influence of this movement and gave important baroque works of art and experienced the liveliness and enthusiasm of the baroque art to the full. The Hungarian literature of this period adopted the style and features of the baroque art and produced works that are appreciated by everyone.István Gyöngyösi (1629?-1704) was the most popular poet of the Hungarian baroque literature. He not only brought a new impetus to the Hungarian literature but also greatly contributed to the Hungarian language. A number of Hungarian literary people who followed him made important contributions to the Hungarian literature in the course of time. They helped the Hungarian literature acquire a cohesive character in the evolution of the world and European literature. István Gyöngyösi is certainly the starting point of the modern Hungarian literature. It is impossible to understand the Hungarian literature and the Movement of the Reform of the Hungarian Language without interpreting and evaluating his work.The greatest work of this popular poet of the Hungarian baroque literature is Márssal Társalkodó Murányi Vénus (1664). The conquest of the Murány fort by Ferenc Wesselényi is depicted in this work. It complies with the rules of the baroque literature and is full of expressions that produce enthusiasm and surprise and give a sense of intrigue. It is ornamented with mythological elements. István Gyöngyösi proved himself as a great artist with this work, exhibited his literary personality and showed that his prestigious position in the Hungarian literature was not without reason. Gyöngyösi remained for a long time on the throne of the Hungarian literature.We have examined in our paper the life and the literary personality of this great poet, his important works and his contributions to the Movement of the Reform of the Hungarian Language and in particular his greatest work, Márssal Társalkodó Murányi Vénus. We have interpreted the mentioned work in detail together with the baroque movement that provides its framework.We have examined a large number of other works and resources, including scientific internet resources, on Hungary and other related countries and tried to produce new information on the basis of concrete data and scientific findings. Recent research and comparative literary works have enabled us to better understand him and reinforced his deserved prestigious position in the Hungarian literature. We believe that we have reached some new concepts, results and evaluations and thus contributed to a better and more realistic understanding of this great poet of the Hungarian baroque literature.
