Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the tests used in "Secondary School Institutions Student Selection and Placement Test" is reasonable enough to predict the academic level of secondary school institutions. In order to reach this purpose, the correlation between "Academic Achievement Scores" and the scores coming from the "Secondary School Institutions Student Selection and Placement Tesf are tried to determined. For this study, 9 of the Anatolian High Schools found in Ankara were chosen among 31 among 31 Anatolian High Schools, in choosing these schools, our criteria were as following: Firstly, all schools were put into order from the their lowest points to the highest ones according to their minimum and maximum SSISSP scores. The Anatolian High Schools were divided into three categories (1. top level, 2. middle level, 3. bottom level ) and were groupped regarding to their lowest (minumum) and highest (maximum) scores. Each group consists of three schools (total 9 schools). There were 435 students (222 male and 213 female) in these schools that form the representative sample. "Secondary School Institutions Student Selection and Placement Tesf scores were derived from the Ministry of Education, Department of Educational Technologies - Measurement and Evaluation Center while the academic score data comes from schools. The data was analyzed by SPSS programme. The relation between tests scores and achievement scores was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The tests Vanalyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The tests used in SSISSPT and predict the academic achievement in courses for the first year of the high school was using gradual multiple regression analysis. As a result of this research, the followings were found; a) SSISSPT was a quite reliable test (0,92), b) the correlation between SSISSP test scores differs from 0,32 to 0,64, c) the correlation between SSISSP test scores and the achiviment scores were found significant except geograpy test and d) It was observed that while predicting the achievement in the secondary education, Turkish and Math Tests are important predictors, whereas Geograpy and Physics subscale do not predict any achievement in any course succes. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature and some suggestions were made.
