Orientalism can be defined by three different ways; is variable historical and cultural relationship between the Eurupe and the Asia; is the discipline in West which expertice of the study East culture and tradition from the nineteenth-century; is a though system and an expertice area which contains ideologyst supposition, image and fantastic regards which named on the world `East?.George Makdisi?s family was originally hailed from Lebanon. He is an American Orientalist. He studied, Islamıc thought, usul al-fıqh, fıqh/law, history and education. He tried to show similarty of the Middle Ages? West thought and Islamic.Especially, he studied the Eleventh-Century of the Baghdad. He compared the madrasa system with the West educational system. He placed fıqh to the center of the educational system. He studied the effect of the Islamic culture to the West. He said that the scholasticism?s and the humanism?s source is Islam. And studied on Ibn Aqil, who was Hanbeli. Makdisi studied, traditionalism and rationalism in the Islamic thought. He placed Hanbelite to the center of the traditionalism. He defended that the Hanbelite wasn?t against of the sufism. Makdisi put forward that the Ash?arites wanted that the ortodoxy included itsself. But they failed.Makdisi says that; in the past the East and the West effected each others. Nowadays, they must have good intentions for each others and they must establish relations with each other.
