Prof.Dr. Ergun GÖKTEN The aim of this work is to examine the occurrence of the palygorskite-sepiolite minerals in the lacustrine limestones of the Yukarıpınarbaşı-Sarıcalar (Konya North) and to determine the minerals paragenesis. Neogene sediments were precipitated in the closed lacustine basin. Calcite, dolomite, guartz and clay minerals in the lacustrine limestones were determined by X-ray and electron microscop observations. According to mineralogical observations of clays, the following mineralogical sequence was observed from the edge to the center of the basin: Illite, smectite, Pe-chlorite, kaolinite in the edge of basin and dolomite, sepiolite palygorskite in the center. The distribution and occurdences of calcite and dolomite minerals in the study area are in zonal pozit&on as clay minerals. Abundantly calcite forms in basis-margens while dolomite occures in basin and basin-center. However calcite and dolomite may be seen in basis together. That zonal distribution is an accordance to dolomite- sepiolite palygorskite paragenesis. It has been considered that sepiolite-palygorskite were formed as otigenic from Mg and Si iones after solving limestones in the middle/deep parts of the basin.
