The purpose of this study is to investigate employers' attitudes toward employing and working with handicapped persons. So too, the study examines the relationship between the following varibles and employers' attitudes toward employing handicapped persons : (1) the employer's preference of handicapped type, (2) the employer's previous personal experience with handicapped people, (3) the employer's previous business experience with handicepped people, (4) the employer's previous training on working with the handicapped, (5) the size of the company (number of employee) and (6) educational level of the employer. The descriptive study was conducted through two survey instruments seeking employer attitudes and outling several selected variables. A random sample was selected from the population of employers for Ankara manufacturing firms. Subjects in the study were 80 volunteer employers who worked for firms in Ankara and who had the authority to employ and /or supervise employees. RQThe Employee Opinionnaire was used to measure employers' attitudes towards the handicapped. The instrument was designed to measure employers' attitude toward the handicapped person in work-related situation. The instrument consists of 23 items to be related by employer on a scale format. Also, a demographic information in question form was used. The Pearson Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation and The Point Biserial Coefficient of Correlation was applied to determine if there was a significant relationship between the variables stated and the attitudes toward employing and working with handicapped. In addition, several demographic variables were examined. If asked from the respoudents that they check the factors which encourage them to employ handicapped on those factors which discourage them has to so. Those who were willing to employ handicapped expressed that the productivity of the handicapped were satisfactory while those unwilling that the handicapped were of poor productivity work in qualitiy and quantity. However, preferences for certain handicapps were clearly shown the orthopedically handicapped and hearing impaired were most preferred, while the mentally retarded and severely handicappeds were prefered less for employing and working with. The findings suggest that througt further investigation, the variables should be more specific toward the type and nature of employer involvement. 90In employing the handicapped people, the results show that there is a significant correlation between the employers' previous personal and business experiences and their educational level. Furtheremore, there was no significant relationship found between the employers' preference of handicapped type and the size of the company and their attitudes toward employing handicapped people. In addition, all of the respondents expressed that they had no previous training on working with the handicapped. Under this condition, coefficient of correlation was not applied.
