In this thesis, a metamaterial-based microstrip system has been designed and its EIT-like effect has been investigated in order to observe the phenomenon of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) counterpart of atomic systems in macro systems. For this purpose, designs have been made by using the CST Microwave Studio electromagnetic simulation program and the design in which the EIT-like effect has been realized was produced using the photolithography method. S-parameters of the sample have been measured by using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). Simulation and measurement results have been compared and measurements have been carried out using different substrates and by changing the design parameters of the structure. The effect of the changes on the emerging EIT-like effect caused by the design parameters of the structure have been examined. The effect of EIT-like effect on the refractive index change, thus its contribution to slow light has been investigated and related sensivity analyses have been made. In addition, medium environment effect to EIT-like phenomenon is investigated by using different superstrate layers with different permittivity and its related sensitivity calculations have been made. As a result, it is concluded that the emergence of EIT-like spectral window in a microstrip system will provide convenience and flexibility in applications such as communication, sensing and switching.
