The objective of this study is to examine the concept of violence addressed in the novels of the French author Frederika Amalia Finkelstein titled L'Oubli (2014) and Survivre (2017). To this end, the study discussed two different historical periods: the period from the end of the Second World War to the end of the 20th century and the period from the 9/11 terrorist attacks to the present day. In this respect, implications of the transmission of traumatic memory on the present day were addressed on the basis of the Holocaust, which took place during the Second World War when the violence reached the peak point, with references to L'Oubli on one hand while reflections of the phenomenon of terror on today's modern individuals and societies were discussed on the basis of the Bataclan terror attack addressed in Survivre on the other hand. In the present study, first, historical process was mentioned for better analysing the periods in question. Then the concept of evil with its changing limits was examined, and the perspective of the author towards this concept was interpreted. Also, the topics of postwar witness and transfer of traumatic memory were addressed within the framework of the concept of post-memory. Along with post-memory, duty of memory and memory spaces were also addressed within the scope of the novels. Finally; threats, risks and the culture of terror of the modern era were examined within the framework of the new wars term with references to the novels examined. All in all, based on the historical background of the novels analyzed in this study, it was concluded that violence continued in a vicous circle in the post-World War II era despite changes were observed in terms of geography, reasons or parties.tr_TR
