Büyük Sergi'ye diplomatik kanallarla 34 ülke davet edilmiş olup bunlar; Avusturya, Belçika, Brezilya, Bremen, Şili, Çin, Danimarka, Mısır, Fransa, Almanya (Zollervein Devletleri), Yunanistan, Hamburg, Hannover, Hollanda, Lubeck, Meksika, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Yeni Granada, Oldenburg, İran, Peru, Portekiz, Roma, Rusya, Sardunya, Schleswig-Holstein, Sosyete Adaları, İspanya, İsveç, İsviçre, Tunus, Osmanlı Devleti, Toskana ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'dir. 1.400 sergi görevlisi tarafından sergilenen yaklaşık 15.000 üreticiye ait 100.000'i aşkın endüstriyel ürün ziyaretçileri sergiyi gezdikleri süre boyunca adeta dünyanın birbirinden farklı köşelerine götürmüştür. The World's Fairs (Expos), which started with the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations, have become a spaces of representation for the participating countries and have become new places for exhibiting inventions, technological and industrial developments, looking for markets for capital accumulation that obtained under the influence of the Industrial Revolution, and new international spaces of interaction. In the London Great Exhibition of 1851, which was the first and pioneer of these platforms, where each country wanted to emphasize its representation with strong, remarkable emphasis, Western and Eastern countries showed themselves with different presentations; while Western countries challenged other countries by emphasizing their industries and advancing technologies, Eastern societies tried to draw attention to their natural products, traditional goods and cultural elements. The Great Exhibition of 1851, which was the first international historical exhibition of time, became the essence of a new exhibition type that is the World's Fairs (Expos), and was the first in many ways. For the first time, many countries participated in the exhibition with their diverse and unique collections, and had opportunity to promote their culture, resources, industry and technology and also had opportunity to compare themselves with other countries of their time. In a sense, The Great Exhibition filled the very important deficiency by providing opportunity to interaction between countries for the first time and paved the way for announcement of technological developments to the world for the first time. These exhibitions allowed the establishment of a direct relationship between producers, traders and consumers; competition between countries shifted from battlefields to World's Fairs (Expos). As realized this change before other countries, England became a pioneer in this field and as the Industrial Revolution began in England before others, England exposed its industrial and technological development with the Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations which was the first international fair of the world. The Crystal Palace, which was built as an exhibition building in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition, was the first construction that pioneered the modern trend with its architecture that brought together the glass and iron materials in such a big size and where prefabrication technique was used. The Crystal Palace, which its interior design inspired from Islamic Architecture especially from the Alhambra Palace in Granada, enabled nations to exhibit their products within their selected collections at country pavilions. 34 nations were invited to the Great Exhibition with diplomatic channels; Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bremen, Chile, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany (the States of the Zollervein), Greece, Hamburg, Hannover, Holland, Lubeck, Mexico, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, New Granada, Oldenburg, Iran, Peru, Portugal , Rome, Russia, Sardinia, Schleswig-Holstein, Society Islands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Ottoman Empire, Tuscany and the United States of America. The first day tickets of this special exhibition, which was opened by Queen Victoria on May 1, 1851, sold out before the opening and a total of 200,000 pounds worth of tickets have been sold. The exhibition, which was open for about five months, was visited by around six million people. In addition to Prince and Queen made important visits to the exhibition many times, a great attention was paid to the exhibition from all over the world and the rulers and subjects of many countries visited the exhibition. For the first time at the Great Exhibition, people saw that they could come together on a peaceful platform and as the exhibition was visited by foreign statesmen and rulers of the time it was revealed that was one of the most important events of the 19th century. The kings and queens of Europe, the Emperor of Russia, the King of Prussia, the King of Belgium, the Duke of Saxsonburg, the Prince of Littez, the Duchess of Orleans, the family of the former King of France, and even the King of the Netherlands went to London and visited the exhibition. Officers from France, Germany, Austria, Prussia, Russia, Belgium, America, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden and Norway and from many nations were sent to the exhibition, commissioners from France and Russia examined exhibits in order to produce them in factories in their countries and observers were sent to the exhibition from China. More than 100,000 industrial products belong to approximately 15.000 producers, which were exhibited by 1,400 exhibitors, let visitors to feel at different corners of the world virtually during their visit. Items from England and from its colonies displayed at the exhibition mostly, then items from France and from German Zollverein. The fact that France has the largest collection in the exhibition and its collection that was included advanced industrial products in it attracted the attention of the world. In addition, the French people showed an interest in the exhibition also and the number of foreign visitors was around 60.000 and almost half of them came from France. Under the influence of the Ottoman-British rapprochement developed during the Tanzimat Period and the 1838 Ottoman-British Trade Agreement, Sultan Abdülmecid accepted the offer of Queen Victoria of England and the Ottoman Empire took part in the Great Exhibition. The aim of the Ottoman Empire, which formed a collection containing mostly traditional goods, natural products and cultural elements, was to show the productivity of the lands of the Empire, to prove the agricultural, industrial and artistic skills of Ottoman subjects, and to show the efforts of the Sultan in the development of the country. In this direction, the Ottoman government established a commission within the Ministry of Nafia before the exhibition to select and prepare the goods that would be sent to the exhibition and government prepared a large collection including agricultural products, natural recourses like minerals, and raw materials for textile industry, fabrics, carpets, rugs, ceramics, and handicrafts. Already the desire to expose large variety of exhibits came from the Queen of England and was accepted by the Ottoman Sultan. Exhibits, which belong to 700 producers, were displayed in Istanbul for a week after arrived in Istanbul, examined by the Sultan, high officials, mother and sons of Sultan, foreign state ambassadors, merchants and artisans. The goods were then collected, classified regularly and put in approximately 200 crates and loaded to ship called Feyz-i Bahri. The ship, which has 1,600 tons of cargo, departed from Istanbul on the evening of Sunday, April 13, 1851 and arrived to London on April 26, 1851, five days before the opening of the exhibition, on April 29, 1851, the delivery of goods from the Port of Southampton to the Crystal Palace was began. The pavilion of the Ottoman Empire, which exhibited goods from Egypt, Tunisia and various lands of the Empire, was visited by thousands guests, including the British Queen. The exhibition closed to public on October 11, 1851, the closing ceremony was held on October 15, 1851, and Prince Albert delivered a speech at the ceremony which, emphasize the importance of the exhibitions for international unity and peace, and then medals were given to the owners. 3088 medals were distributed by the Commissions, 170 of which were great, and 36 medals were given to the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman government received 86 awards and 42 certificates in the fields of hand-made products, home textiles, porcelain and agricultural products which four of them belong to Egypt. In England, British vocational and arts schools were opened with an income of approximately 500,000 pounds from the Great Exhibition, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Science Museum and the Natural Science Museum were established in London's South Kensington.tr_TR
