From past to future, human beings have always been wondered about the function of all things in their environments and they have tried to give some meanings to them. For this reason, with regard to continue to our life, knowing and knowledge have always been a significant place for human beings. The purpose of this study, from the first substance that the nature philosophers are pioneered is of asking epistemological questions about the basis of universe and finding the answer to these questions which is about whatness of knowledge in the philosophy of Sophist and Plato's. Furthermore, in this study the Sophist's are criticized in terms of their relativist philosophies within the framework of Plato's dialogues. The first part of our study, Protagoras and Gorgias's relativist philosophies are given and object oriented philosophy, which is revealed by nature philosophers give its place to a new philosophical understanding which is subject oriented philosophy. Protagoras's opinion which is about human-measure shows that knowledge is shaped on the basis of perception, and also Gorgias's view which is about "there is nothing" shows that everything is in conflict and contradiction. Thus, in the philosophy of Sophists, it is impossible to reach absolute knowledge. This impossibility creates a big problem for Plato and he tries to reach absolute knowledge. At this point in the second part of our study, Plato's basic dialogues are examined, and thought about the whatness of knowledge. Although Plato is influenced by Sophist's subject oriented philosophy, he always intends to refute their thoughts. Thus, Plato's Theaitetos dialogue is examined and the first activity is that the hypothesis which is "Knowledge is perception" is refuted and the main criticisms of Protagoras are brought here. The second hypothesis which is about "Knowledge is true belief" is also refuted. Finally, the hypothesis that "Knowledge is true belief based on logos" is refuted. As we can see, there is not any definition about what is knowledge. For this reason, the answer to this question has been achieved only by addressing the nature of the ideas. Plato is in pursuit of what is achieved by reason rather than by the senses which is always in continuous change. In other words, he is in search of eternal and absolute konowledge. This problem has been overcome only by designing the ideas field. In the last part of our study, Gorgias's philosophy has been criticised within the scope of the distinction between knowledge and belief. The claim of this study is to criticize the Sophist's relative and perceptual philosophy based on Plato's philosophy and to find out how absolute knowledge can be obtained.tr_TR
