kalıpyargılarının her iki ortamdaki oyun tercihlerini anlamlı düzeyde yordamadığı
sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Annelerin çocukların oyunlarına müdahale durumları cinsiyet
kalıpyargılarında anlamlı fark yaratmazken, serbest oyun zamanında çocukların
kalıpyargılarında öğretmenlerin çocukların oyunlarına müdahalelerine göre anlamlı
bir fark saptanmıştır. Çocukların okulda oyun arkadaşı tercih durumunun ise cinsiyet
özelliklerine ilişkin kalıpyargılarını anlamlı bir düzeyde yordamadığı görülmüştür.
This study aims to investigate gender stereotypes of the children between 48-72
months who continue preschool education in terms of gender, age, the characteristics
of play, toys and materials and the play preferences at home and at school, mothers’
and teachers’ intervention situations to children’s play and playmate preference
situations at school . In the study conducted by the relational screening model, the
study group consists of 82 children, 36 girls and 46 boys between 48-72 months
studying in a kindergarten in Altındağ district which is in Ankara during 2015-2016
educational years, their mothers and their teachers. In order to determine the
stereotypes of the gender characteristics, 'Sex Stereotype Measure ' was administered
to the children and the forms created by the researcher were filled by the parents and
teachers in order to determine the characteristics and preferences of the children’s
play, toys and materials at home and school for data collection. The t-test, the
Kruskal Wallis test and Mann Whitney U test were used in the analysis of the data
and the significance was evaluated at .05 level. According to the findings obtained
from the study, whereas there was no significant difference in the gender
stereotypical scores of the children compared to the age, there was a significant
difference only in the male stereotypical scores of the children in the gender variable.
The characteristics of children’s play and toys were examined, according to results,
the most present toys in girls’ home environment are dolls and dolls materials, balls
and puzzles; the fireman costumes and materials, police-soldier costumes and
materials, repair kits and boy figurated puppets were the least chosen. The most
present toys in boys’ home environments are toy vehicles, bicycle, play doughmould;
the nurse costumes and materials, girl figurated puppets and cook costume
vii
and materials were the least chosen ones. Tag, playing house and play with
educational materials were the most played plays in girls’ home environment;
playing with toy repair tool kits, playing with toy vehicles and manipulative plays
were the least ones. Tag, playing with toy vehicles and playing with balls were the
most played plays in boys’ home environment; rope skipping, manipulative plays
and playing house were the least ones. Play dough- mould, dolls and dolls materials,
toy kitchen materials were the most played; toy weapon, fireman costume and
materials, police-soldier costume and materials and marble are the fewest played toys
and materials for girls in school environment. Toy vehicles, blocks, play doughmould
and legos were the most played; toy jewerly and cosmetics set, rope, nurse
costume and materials and fireman costume and materials were the least played toys
and materials for boys in school environment.
In children’s play preferences at home and at school, it was seen that they
can play all kinds of plays but the most preferred plays were sex-typed ones for both
sexes and the total number of children’s stereotypes did not predicted the play
preferences in both environments. Whereas the mothers’ intervention of children’s
play didn’t make any differences in terms of gender stereotypes, the teachers’
intervention of free play made a significant difference. It was seen that children’s
selection of a play friend at school during a free play in terms of gender stereotypes
was not predicted significantly at school.
