Köpeklerde karprofen ve fluniksin in postoperatif analjezik etkinliklerinin karşılaştırılması
AbstractThe aim of this comparative study was to determine the differences between the analgesic effects of carprofen and flunixine on dogs considering post operatif heart rate, respiratory rate, the quality of postoperatif analgesia and the SDS and MFPS scales. This study was performed on 30 mongrel female dogs. The dogs were categorized at random in to 3 groups. Carprofen was adminestered (4mg/bw) the first group; flunixine (1.2mg/bw) the second and the third group got saline solution subcutaneously. Ovariohysterectomy and gastrotomy operations were performed on all dogs. One of the analgesics was randomly and blindly administered to each dog at the end of the operation. The postoperative measuruments were completed by the same observer wi thout the knowledge of which drug was adminestered. Heart rate and respiratory rates of all dogs were measured at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th hours post operatively. Pain reactions were evaluated at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and the 12th hours postoperatively using the SDS and MFPS pain scoring scales. According to pain scoring, no effective postoperative analgesia could be provided by the single dose administration of carprofen and flunixine at the end of the operation. However, it was detected that better analgesic effectiveness and more rapid and longer duration of effect was provided by carprofen compered to flunixine. It was concluded that to achieve meaningfull and reliable results, subjective and objective studies should be evaluated concurrently.
